About Me

I come from Scotland originally and I spent many years working as a teacher and academic manager, but over the years I have become more and more interested in working with people one to one and collaborating with them in finding ways to get past the problems and challenges that can block their progress.

I have been involved in counselling since I did my initial certificate in 2002, while I was living and working in Hong Kong. For seven years I did some part-time counselling in addition to my teaching work.  When I came to New Zealand in 2010, I decided to make counselling my main focus.  I completed my Masters in Counselling at the University of Waikato at the end of 2012 and my Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling ( Counselling Supervision) in 2017.

In New Zealand I have worked as a counsellor in school and tertiary settings as well as seeing a range of people through an agency.  I have also taught on the counselling programmes at both the University of Waikato and Wintec, where I currently hold a 0.5 position.  I have been seeing private clients alongside my other work since 2013 and currently also do some work for the Rape and Sexual Abuse Healing Centre.
